My experience with Dr Joe Dispenza in Edinburgh

Dr Joe Dispenza in Edinburgh

I found Dr Joe Dispenza’s work by searching the internet for things that would help me with my mindset which in turn would help me with my sports trading.

I became sort of addicted to his work. It fascinated me, so when I heard he was coming to Edinburgh I knew I had to go.

I booked this advanced workshop back in December so I decided to buy one of his books before I went to familiarise myself with his work.

I purchased You Are The Placebo. This book is for anyone who wants to change some aspect of their life. It’s a practical book backed by scientific evidence. Anyone who is interested in Mind over matter then this is a must read. I will do a review on this book soon. (update: Read my review on You are the placebo)

My journey to Edinburgh

A friend and I went to Stansted airport on Thursday to catch our flight. I don’t know how it happened but we missed our flight by 5 mins. The plane was still on the tarmac with ladders attached but they wouldn’t let us through the gates. There was no more planes available that day so we had to go back home. I was gutted.

Luckily, Friday morning there was available seats but my friend said she had a family party on the Saturday evening and decided to lose out on this workshop which cost £280 and go to the party instead.

After a sleepless night I decided to get out of my comfort zone and go on my own. Booking another ticket one-way which cost nearly double to what we had paid for a return a month ago.

This time I got to the airport with plenty of time to spare, only to find out my plane had been delayed. Only by half an hour but, if that had been the day before we would of been fine. Oh well, you live and learn.

As you can see, I had a gorgeous clear day for flying.

My arrival at Edinburgh

People seemed very helpful when I arrived off the plane. I caught a tram which took me straight to my hotel. I had about an hour before I had to get to the conference centre in the town centre to register for the workshop. The bus was about half an hour ride away. When I arrived the queue seemed to be half way round the city. It was massive but very organised.

I got my wristband and entered the hall. Wow! It was packed out. I walked towards the back and found a lady sitting on her own, so I asked if the seat next to her was empty. She had also gone to the workshop by herself so we got chatting. I told her my story about my friend backing out at the last minute, she told me the reason she was here and we became instant buddies.

Meet Karen…..My friend for the weekend, and now for life ?

The progressive workshop

I don’t really know where to start as the weekend was just mind blowing. It was sold out, 2000 people from 54 countries all there for their own reasons. Some had medical issues, some had past trauma’s and some like me just wanted to better their life and mindset.

The energy in the room was electric and before Dr Joe came on the stage, music was played and everybody was out their seats dancing and clapping.

The workshop commenced Friday evening, although it was only 2 hours long 7-9pm, and he just went over basics which I already knew really from watching him on You Tube and reading his book. Saturday and Sunday was where the magic happened.

I just want to say, his work is not for everyone. You have to be opened minded. When I told my brother I was going he called me a freak. He would be one of the people that this event is not for. 🙂

Anyway, if you believe you can change your life with your mind through meditation then this is the place for you. Dr Joe specializes in change and transformation, but you have to really want it and put in the work to see change.

It’s an experience with a large group of people who want to push the boundaries of possibility.

What I learned from Dr Joe Dispenza in Edinburgh

I won’t go into detail too much as this post would be way too long but I will list the things I took away from the weekend.

1# The source of all emotional stress is what we choose to focus on

When we attempt to create change, our bodies and minds will fight us every step of the way. That is because we are addicted to our negative emotions and change is scary. For this reason, the most important qualities that we can have if we do want to create change is resilience and consistency.

2# Your personality creates your personal reality.

Our personality is a combination of three things. The three things are what we think, what we do and how we feel. If you want to change your emotions of what you have experienced in your life then you must first change how you think, what you do and how you feel.

This is the hard part as it doesn’t happen overnight. You have to put in the work every day. If you keep reminding yourself of who you want to be, while at the same time staying conscious of who you no longer want to be, eventually your personal reality will transform to match your new personality.

3# Where you place your attention is where you place your energy

If you are constantly placing your attention on all of the elements in your outer environment that cause you emotional stress (i.e. people, places, objects, things, and time), then over time you become habituated into living by the hormones of stress which in addition can make you sick.

4# When you live in your past you are asleep in the present.

Everybody has experienced some kind of pain in their life, it’s about moving forward and not being the victim.

At the end of any relationship it’s easy to blame the other person, create countless reasons why it didn’t work out, or make it their fault or your own. But when we do this, we are unconsciously returning to our old programs that cause us to be the victim in our life, rather than the creator of it.

When it comes to trauma and loss, we have all experienced fear and doubt, and have had dark times. At some point, however, when push comes to shove, you have to make up your mind—is the loss going to be the end of your life or is it a new beginning? It all comes down to choice.

If you decide it’s the beginning of your life, then you have to get over the painful emotions and start trading them in for the emotions you want to experience in your next relationship or experience. In doing so, you fill the gap created by the loss with the energy of your future, as opposed to giving your energy away. That’s because where you place your attention is where you place your energy.

Things you can do now to improve your life

  • Become aware of what you are giving attention to. That is the most creative energy in the universe and you are investing it somewhere.
  • Take one thing you want to create in life, and list exactly its attributes. Identify the corresponding emotions.
  • Spend a minimum of 10-15 minutes each day meditating until you are ‘no-thing’.
  • At the end of your meditations, feel those emotions.
  • Practice gratitude for what you currently have, and the future reality that is already yours in your mind. Do this daily. It is very powerful.

I can’t do this workshop justice in this post, you had to be there to experience the atmosphere.

Along with all the teachings and Dr Joe explaining the scientific evidence behind his work, we did five guided meditations in total. The ones we did on Sunday were more than one hour long.

Meditation is fairly new to me and I did struggle on the Saturday to be honest. I had one eye open having a look around to see what was going on, but by Sunday I was getting into it more. I am definitely going to carry on with the meditations now I’m home. Karen is my accountability partner to make sure we both do the work now we are back in our day to day lives.

In summary

Attending this course really underlined how powerful our thoughts actually are. We can make ourselves sick with thought alone and we can also heal ourselves with our thoughts.

This is not just some mumbo jumbo, it has scientific evidence to back it up.

Most of us ordinarily folk do not live like we actually have control over what we want, we do not take the time out of our busy lives to spend time on our thoughts and ourselves. It is a fun process – like designing your own life.

How will this will help with my trading?

Anything that has to do with a positive mindset has to be good for trading, right? I don’t actually know how it will improve my trading but I do know that if I meditate before sitting down at the computer to trade, my state of mind will be a lot calmer.

It can only be a positive going forward.

And as for the actual progressive workshop – it was amazing to be around so many like-minded people who all wanted, in one way or another to better their lives.

  1. Brilliant read Paula, and very interesting ….. As you so rightly say, it has everything to do with a positive mindset and gratitude for what we have in our lives …… If we are grateful and positive that keeps the negativity under control….! but as you very rightly said, it needs practicing … there are so many ways we can revert to old habits… but the more we actually are positive and grateful, the easier it gets …….
    Thanks for posting this …..

  2. I’m glad I came across this page. I was searching for people’s personal experiene with the Advanced Workshop (I’ve already completed the online Progressives). I like how you summarize and bullet point the highlights, while also expressing your viewpoints. Very succinct, and I enjoyed your read!

    1. Maya,

So glad that I came across this post. I have been reading his books and have recently started the meditations, which I love. What did you think of the online Progressive – I am considering that though there is also a live Progressive in Columbia at the end of Jan 2020…wondering if the online is just as good. Thoughts?

      1. Hi Natalie, I have not done an online progressive but I have heard good things about it. Obviously not a substitute for actually being there though. But on the plus side it is cheaper and if you can’t make an actual workshop then it is a start. I wish you all the best.
        Thanks Paula

    2. Hi Paula,
I loved reading your account and especially hearing how wonderful the experience was for you when you decided to push beyond your comfort zone.
I have registered for an Advanced workshop in San Diego in August and will be attending alone. It has brought up a lot of old stuff for me but I’m grateful to shed light on it and really can’t wait to be around 1,000 like-minded souls.

      1. Hi Sonia
That’s great that you are going, and there will be plenty of people on their own and I’m sure you will find a connection with someone like I did. All the best and I would love to hear how you get on.

  3. Hi Paula,
I am presently reading “Becoming supernatural” by Joe Dispenza and I did a search to see what critics say. So I came upon your report.
How are you doing today, 10 months later?
Are you back to old habits and “an ordinary life” or do you still practice the meditations?
I often find myself fascinated and charged by what I read, like Louise Hay, Eckhardt Tolle and others, but the way to enlightenment seems too complicated to achieve if work, taking care, appointments, friends and family, sleep, eating and doing nothing shall also have a place in life.

    1. Hi and thank you for your question.

It is difficult when life get’s in the way but you must make time just for you. I still do the meditations in the morning, I read Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod and I do this most mornings.
2 weeks after I went to Edinburgh I lost my dad to dementia so it was a tough time but I believe knowing all this information from Joe and others helped me alot.

You have to be strict to start with but you then form the habit of doing it and instead of it being a chore it becomes enjoyable.

All I do is get up a hour earlier every morning and that is me time.

      All the best

  4. Hi Paula,

Fantastic to read your review. I’ve been watching alot of Joe Dispenza recently and I would love to attend one of his workshops soon if possible.
As an aspiring trader also, I have to ask. Has it improved since changing your mindset?

    1. Hi Craig

Thank you for the feedback. I feel Dr Joe Dispenza has been a great help for me. As you know learning to trade is 80% mindset and 20% markets. It’s hard to say whether I have improved through Dr Joe Dispenza with my trading but it’s improved my life and my way of thinking. I love all this mindset stuff anyway so to tie it into trading has been great. I find before sitting down to trade I meditate for 10 mins only and it just puts me in that right frame of mind.

Feel free to contact me if you need anymore info.

      All the best

  5. I enjoy what you guys are up too. Such clever work and coverage!

Keep up the superb works guys I’ve added you guys to my blogroll.

  6. Thanks for writing the review about Joe Dispenza. I am a huge admirer of his work and I like that he has scientific research to backup what he preaches.  He is amazing and I really feel that practising what he explains in his books and from what I have seen on youtube can lead to change so it was great to read your feedback.
We have a young family and work but that is no excuse for me to not take that “me time” in the morning. I really feel like it could be a MASSIVE benefit. No more excuses though.
I “try to trade” but end up “gambling”, but I do want to make money with trading, hopefully being disciplined and having the “right mindset” will lead to that.

    Thanks for your review.

  7. Hi Paula! Lovely article and thanks for sharing this experience. I wonder how you are feeling now it’s been over a year since the workshop? Do you see any positive events that came out from practicing Joe’s methods everyday that would have not happened without? Thank you!
